Sharing my Knowledge about the Scientific Method

 Kia ora. In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. We have been doing this so we can understand a new process and apply this new learning to other contexts. We were also learning to record/organise main ideas from a non-fiction text we had to read about the scientific method. There were 8 steps to the scientific method. We had to create a D.L.O showing the 8 steps that needed pictures because we were creating an infographic, (this means and informational graphic.) This can and maybe will help us will our marble challenge, I will be blogging about sometime this week. Something I learnt from this is the 8 steps to the scientific method. Sharing my Knowledge about Mosaic Art

 Kia ora. In Te Ngahere Gail and I have been working on a slideshow to show our class how to make a mosaic art piece. We used our knowledge from the past to teach the others. I wasn’t here when Gail presented it but I helped to create the D.L.O. We were creating mosaic arts to make a url for our school plants for our ngahere plants to show parents. What is a mosaic? A mosaic is a piece of art that includes all different shapes and sizes, that include different colours starting from three colours or more. A mosaic art piece is commonly used for floor and wall decor but we used it for our school. There will be an example of a mosaic piece I have made. I will also embed our D.L.O if you want to know how to make one of your own. The mosaic piece is of a turtle that was recently made. Something similar to mosaic is collage, we also have created collages but with paper. I enjoyed making my mosaic art. Something I think I did well was, choosing a very detailed animal, it was a bit too detailed for me but I like the result. Something I could do better next time is choose something that I like and that isn't as detailed so it could turn out better next time. Have you created a mosaic? I hope you enjoyed. Ka kite!

Sharing my Experience at Technology

Last week in Te Ngahere the year 7’s and 8’s went to technology at Moerewa School. This term the 8’s that are working with Mr. E are continuing to finish our waka. This is how it went first off we measured our wood and created an outline form of a waka, then using power tools we cut the wood out. Once that was complete we then sanded out our waka and after that we glued another piece of wood onto our waka. The other piece of wood is going to be for the bottom of our waka. The next thing we did was used a tool called a plane and used it to carve the actual waka, after that is all completed we then move on to the next step which is sanding it all down. Something I learnt was that the front side of a boat is called a bow and the back is called a stern. The challenging part for me was trying to cut the waka inside of the line when using the powertool. The part that was easy for me was glueing it to the other piece of wood. Exhausting P.E Rotation

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog. In Te Ngahere we have have been doing P.E rotation with the year 4/5 class which is Te Maunga. We were doing P.E rotation to help us with our skills. There are 4 activities we are working on which are skills, soccer, touch and netball. For the four activities we do it in our house groups which is Rimu (my group,) Pohutukawa, Kowhai and Karaka. Our house group started by playing netball, we were working on stepping. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt that pivoting is actually to keep your balance and I play netball but I didn’t know that. I did really enjoy this activity. After that we played soccer and I had no idea what we were doing. We had to run and drop and it was very fun. I learnt that you don’t kick the ball with the front of your foot but with the side of it. With touch I learnt how to pass properly and I enjoyed playing touch. With skills it was really, well you would say tiring because we were practising passes and if you dropped the ball you had to do push ups and I would say we did at least 35 push ups. Defeat

On Saturday Paihia School the year 7 & 8 netball team had a netball game. This game was not like the rest, this game was very competitive because (Paihia School year 7 & 8) and The Bubz team were battling to win the Presidents Cup Award.

On Saturday we didn’t have high hopes of winning. We wanted to believe we were going to win but let’s be real we were going up against the most competitive team in our grade. They were even frightening to look at with their black and green uniforms. I was Goalkeep again for almost the whole game besides the last quarter, I had a very important job to do which was to try stop the Goal Shooter from getting the ball but she was all up against me and it was hard to defend her. Their passes were all on point and they worked together, they always gave each other complements working throughout the game and I think that’s what motivated them. On Saturday when we finished I couldn’t feel my legs or feet, my throat was even hurting. But it was all worth it because we are the second best team in our grade and we came second in the Presidents Cup but we had a major loss as we lost 28/5.

Something our team could work on is to motivate each other and to spread out, like try get free. Something I think we did well was trying our best and actually attending the game. Do you play competitive netball? I hope you enjoyed. Bye!

Blasting Bake Sale!

Kia ora. In our netball team we ran a bake sale to help pay for our fees. Angela, Jade and I spent all day yesterday helping out before the bake sale started like making posters, buttering bread etc.

Everyone brought delicious treats and they sold out pretty quickly. We also had a sausage sizzle going and they were going quick too. The other netball team players also helped to either run it or to clean up etc. We made a lot of money but i’ve been told by someone whos been told that it won’t be enough to pay all of our fees. Something I think we could improve next time is to organize it better like organize the signs and labels before hand but I still think we did good.

Straight after the bake sale we had netball practice because this weekend we are playing against the bubs and if we win to them we win a prize. A lot of parents and including ourselves of course are expecting us to win. I think we have a 50, 50 % chance of winning because we definitely have gotten better since that last game we played against them and it wasn’t pretty. Netball

Kia ora bloggers, on Saturday last week we had a netball game. We played against a team from Kerikeri High School. I knew this game would be very competitive because two of our old friends were in their team. I love playing Gd or Gk because I enjoy defending people.

Our first game was like a warm up round because we had just gotten out of bed. Our second game was more intense because we had already warmed up. We were doing awesome because we were winning and I enjoyed it because I was Gk. The other team I think was saving their energy for last because by the last round they were very competitive. They scored 3 or 4 more goals in the last round but we scored a bit more. By the end of the game they announced that we won 12, 5 and the player of the day was Alexandrea because she was trying her best for the first time playing with us.

Something I think I need to work on next time is to focus on the game not winning. Last year we did so much better, we even got 20 something goals but I’m pretty sure we will progress. I think we did awesome for the first game of the season. Do you play netball? I hope you enjoyed. Ka Kite!
