Science fair

Kia ora Ko Breeze toku ingoa. Ko Paihia toku kura. I am a year 6 student in Te Ngahere. My group and I have been working really hard on our science fair project. Our aim was which pen will last the longest out of bic, papermate, homebrand and officemax. There were four people in our group so we all brought a pen each. To figure out which pen will last the longest we had to rule one metre lines, after a couple of days my arm started to hurt so my helpful group members helped me rule the lines.

On Friday we presented our science projects to Paihia School. There were judges to judge who would be going to KeriKeri. We got told that whoever is going to KeriKeri or is going to get an award has to wait until the assembly. We were all waiting until the assembly and I was hoping to get first second or third.
It was finally time to know who was going to KeriKeri but before we could know we had to wait until Mrs Lindsay’s mihi finished. When Mrs Lindsay's mihi finished my teachers went up and gave out the science fair awards. Some friends of mine came first place my group came second place and some other friends of mine came third and highly commended. I was so happy when my teacher called out my name for second place because we get to go to KeriKeri. Hope you enjoyed.
Kia kite

Energize

Today Whaea Gina came to Paihia School to teach us about healthy and unhealthy eating. We learnt that there are many different healthy food categories like meat and meat alternatives, milk and milk products, grain foods and vegetables and fruit. We learnt that even if you are a vegetarian you need meat alternative because of the protein in it and they have a good source of iron. Also the meat has to be the same size of your palm not including your fingers. We learnt that it is good to have a healthy diet. Whaea Gina also told us not to bring to many packaged things in our lunch box .

Ned

Yesterday on the first of August everyone gathered up in the whare. Why they gathered up in the whare is because they were getting ready for a NED show. NED stands for three different things, N stands for Never give up, E stands for Encourage others and D stands for do your best. Unfortunately I was sick yesterday but I heard a lot about it. My Friend said the lady running the NED show gave a message saying if you set your mind to it you can do anything. I wish I was there but I did not want anyone else to get sick. She also gave another message like let go of I know so that you can learn and grow, do your best, never give & keep trying.

Science Fair

Kia ora ko Breeze toku ingoa. Ko Paihia toku kura. In Te Ngahere we have been preparing for a science fair. We have been learning how to carry out a scientific investigation. Last term in our reading we were learning about the scientific method. My science group was Mihipeka, Vanya and Nikara. We were trying to find out which pen brand has the most ink in it. We had to rule lines until our pens ran out. My pen was HomeBrand, Nikara’s pen was OfficeMax, Vanya’s pen was PaperMate and Mihi’s pen was Bic. Our group hypothesis was that Mihi’s pen would last the longest but as we got to the end our hypothesis was wrong. Nikara’s pen OfficeMax lasted the longest, My pen came second, Mihi’s pen bic came third and Vanya’s pen PaperMate had the least amount of ink in it. If you are looking for a pen that last the longest you should probably get OfficeMax. OfficeMax is only $1.30 HomeBrand is 30c each or $2.00, PaperMate is $1.30 and bic is 90c. What I found challenging is ruling the lines because my arm got tired. What I enjoyed was collaborating and getting help from my awesome group members.

Running

For the past two weeks after Lunch we have been going out onto the field to practise for cross country. We had to do 2 laps around the field until yesterday. Yesterday we had to run 3 laps around the field. When we first had to run I knew I would not do good and I would be tired because I don’t pace myself.

The first time I ran was on Monday and I was scared We got timed after we had done two laps around the field. My first time was 8.07. On Tuesday we didn’t go for a run, on Wednesday we went for another run, I improved my time by one minute and three second. On Thursday I didn’t run because I went to rippa rugby. On Friday we ran in the morning and I didn’t improve my time. On Monday I got seven eighteen. Yesterday on Tuesday we had to predict what we would get if we ran three times and my prediction was I would get eleven thirty, when we went for ur run I got eleven twenty two. I am going to try and improve that time today.

The 2nd rippa rugby tournament

On the 25th of July some of the year 5 & 6’s had an awesome opportunity to go to Hikurangi to compete in another rippa rugby tournament to represent Paihia School. I was one of those people and we got told that it is not about winning it’s about having fun. We travelled to Hikurangi in our School van. When we got there we started to put or bags down and started to practise. I turned around and I looked at all the teams that were competing, they looked like they were really competitive.

We had 4 games but I forgot 3 scores, the only one I remember was the last one, the last one was 4-6 and we lost, the other 3 games we won. What I thought we could of improved on was to spread out.

We thought we didn’t make it into the semifinals. We got told we did because she added a bonus point until she realized in her rule book she said she wasn’t allowed to do that. Unfortunately we did not make it into the semifinals but we had awesome fun. We came back to Paihia School and we told everyone about our day. At the end of the day I realized everyone is a winner.
