Kapa Haka Performance

Tena koe, Last Thursday we had our Kapa Haka performance. When we arrived we were already in a room before we went on stage. I was scared because one group that was before us was Horeke and they were awesome. The group that was after Horeke was the ukulele group then we went on stage. Before we went on stage we were all squashed in a small room. When we were on stage behind the boards our Kapa Haka tutor was with us and she told us all to smile and told us to remember what we had practised. I was scared because the curtains were closed, then they pulled the rope to open up the curtains. We were finally on stage and our first song was a happy song so we had to smile through the whole thing. I think I smiled throughout the whole song and I think I did a pretty good job. When we walked off stage I was so scared because I slowed down on our poi and it almost stopped - but I made sure it didn’t. What I could have worked on in our entry was to pukana the whole way through because it is talking about who we are and where we come from. What I enjoyed was the whole performance because we didn’t just go there and show everyone a Kapa Haka performance but we also went there to represent Paihia School.
Hope you liked my blog post Kia kite.

Kapa Haka Rehearsal

Last week on Tuesday we had our Kapa Haka rehearsals at the Memorial hall in Kaikohe. When we arrived we were all gathered in a group before we went inside. I had to get a Paihia School T-shirt because I didn’t go to school and get a T-shirt before we arrived because my nan and I went to get some black pants because my brothers and I had no black pants. We stood at the back but then we got put all the way up the front. I was so scared because there was a lot of great performances. I watched a couple of groups and they were amazing but all I needed to focus on was my facials. It was finally time for our performance and I was so scared, throughout our performance our kapa haka tutor stood at the back and was making sure we were smiling. What I did well was smiling because I smiled almost throughout the whole performance. I enjoyed watching other people’s performances because the first group didn’t make me as nervous as I was because we could of been the first performance group. What I learnt was that when other people are performing we need to sit still and listen because the first performance group was probably really scared.

Giving credit

Tena koe, throughout this week and last week we have been learning how to search for and acknowledge any images we use. We have learnt where to get people’s licenses from and the author that made or took the picture. We made a google slide showing where we got the picture from the name of the picture, the authors name and the license. What I learnt is that sometimes some pictures aren't usable and what I found out that there is a licence for photos. I also learnt how to give credit to people. We made a google slide but at the end of this there is a google drawing teaching people like you how to give credit to people.

We only have one week until we perform so we have to stop mucking around. On Tuesday we have our dress rehearsal and Tuesday is not long away but on Thursday we have our big performance. We have just learnt something new so we have to get it finished before next week. I can’t tell you anymore but if you want to go and watch us it will be held at Kaikohe Collage.

Energize

On Tuesday the 3rd of September Whaea Gina came to Paihia School and taught us about healthy and unhealthy drinks. She taught us about drinks we should drink everyday, drinks we shouldn’t drink as much and drinks we should stop drinking. Did you know e2 has 20 tsp of sugar in it and coke only has 10 tsp of sugar in it so Whaea Gina said regular coke is better then the other coke’s such as diet coke and the other cokes. Did you also know that milk and water are the healthiest drinks? Did you know that juice isn’t as healthy as milk and water?
Here is a google drawing.

Second Kapa haka

Hi bloggers this is my (second or third) kapa haka blog post. This week the kapa haka roopu has been practising for another culture festival. This time we are going to Kaikohe in week nine. We have been working really hard. We also have been learning how to drag notes at the end of every waiata and when to breath so we can hit the notes. One of our kapa haka tutors said that we have to emphasize our mouths so we pronounce our kupu properly. I have found it hard to open my mouth and sing so from now on I am going to try and emphasize my mouth a lot more because sometimes I go flat while doing our first waiata.
Hope you enjoyed
