kapa haka

I am a year 6 in Te Ngahere at Paihia School. I am in the Kapa Haka roopu and we have been training for a big event. We are going to Kawakawa School to perform in the Kawakawa Culture festival. We have been missing some of our morning teas and all of our lunches to practise. I like doing kapa haka because we learn new waiata. Some people in the Kapa Haka roopu went to Tai Tokerau to see them perform. I am scared to go because it is this Friday and I didn’t go to Tai Tokerau. I think I just have to believe in myself to do my best in Kapa Haka. It is not about coming first because it is just to have fun and at the end of the day everybody is a winner.

Treaty Grounds

On Thursday & Friday we went to the Treaty Grounds. It was funny when we were waiting for the bus because it was about 35 minutes late. Then it finally got to our school and we finally got to the Treaty Grounds. When we got there we got told some rules. We got a tour on the way where we were heading. When we reached the stairs we had to use feather feet, Feather feet is when you tippy toe up the stairs. When we got to the room we saw devices and we had to put our bags on a table. They explained what the devices were and what the games were, the games were Tinkercad, SculptGL, Paint 3D, VR (Virtual Reality), Slow motion (animation), Coding robots & Green screen. Then we got put into groups, one group had to go on a walk and my group stayed in playing on the devices. Before we started we got to pick a buddy then start. Whaea Monica took us for a walk while Whaea kerry stayed inside. When we first got into Te Ngahere we saw a Kereru poop!!! It was really funny. After that we saw a tui or fantail. After our walk it was time to go home and on Friday we got told we were going to come to our school.

Kupe

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some research about Nukutawhiti,
Kupe, James cook and Abel Tasman. We did a google slides with all the
information on it. We got to pick who to research about, we picked Kupe.
We picked Kupe because we thought that he had more information than everyone else,
and we seemed to find him more interesting. We had finally started and we were
researching. We found quite much info but not as much info as we thought.
We found a lot of info on his impact.

Magic show

On Wednesday we went to a magic show. We had to pay 4$ to go to the magic show, at first I was so surprised. I was so happy and I couldn't wait to go. We finally got into the whare and we saw the magician. I was so amazed I wanted to scream. The first magic trick he did was a fire one. My favourite ones was the ones with the birds. My favourite one was at the end when he turned a bird into a rabbit. The little kids wanted to touch the rabbits, but he said they no. I asked him a question, My question was how do you know which bird is which, the magician said that he could tell by the weight.

Anzac

In Te Ngahere we have been doing maths about Anzac. We had a huge A3 piece of paper that had questions on it. We had both sides we had to figure out. The first one was easy because we just had to double the recipe. There was a recipe that we had to double. It was a Anzac biscuit recipe. The recipe made 30 biscuits and we had to double 30 and that is 60. Next after that we had to make 120 biscuits, we didn’t make them but we had to solve out how they made them. This one was a little challenging because we had to double the other recipe and it was getting difficult. We finally got it then we were moving on the last one. The last on was really hard. We were working out 360. We were really struggling on this one so we asked for help. We finally finished it and we were so proud. I really enjoyed the second one because I like challenging ones but not to challenging.

Maths

Date:08/05/19 In Te Ngahere we have been learning basic facts. We have
been learning our basic facts to make it easier when I get up to stage 6 and 7.
I have achieved my 11, 10, 2 and my 5 times table. I have been learning my 4 times tables
and going to try my best to learn all of them by tomorrow because I only have to learn 4x12, 4x9 and 4x7.
When I get tested I am going to try and know them within three seconds.

Date:09/05/19 I have now learnt my 4 times tables and now I have to
learn my 3 times tables. I am going to try really hard on these. I think they won’t be as
challenging as my 4’s but I think my 12 x 3 is going to be the hardest when I get tested.
