Amazing Ki-o-rahi

Kia ora everyone. It is the 30th of October and guess what we just finished. Well we finished our Ki-o-rahi tournament. It was amazing, I think we were amazing trust me. We traveled from Paihia to Simpson Park in Morewa. I went with my friend and her nan in their truck. I was so nervous because we didn’t have enough practise. Our first game we lost 21-1 but only because we were playing a year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi team. I think we did pretty good in our first game. On our second game we won 10-1. I was amazed and happy. The third game we lost but I don’t remember the score but what I know is that we got 3 points. What I think we need to work on is to spread out because we kept on following where the ball went and who it went to. When we had breaks we always would go on watch the year 7 and 8’s. The year 7 and 8’s were also amazing. The year 5 and 6 team didn’t make it into the semi finals but the year 7 and 8 team did. The year 7 and 8 team lost the semi finals but they tried their best and they did great. Sorry but my teacher was to concentrated on the game and forgot to take some photos but I hope you liked and enjoyed my blog post. Bye.

Awsome Ki-o-rahi practice

Hi bloggers, tomorrow some year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students are going to Ki-o-rahi. There is a year 5 and 6 team and a year 7 and 8 team. We have been practising as much as we could. We try to get out and practice but sometimes the weather isn’t good. Sometimes the year 7 and 8’s practise with the year 5 and 6’s. We have to take turns because there are rolling subs. Rolling subs are when you have to stop and give your tags to someone else so they can have a turn. I really enjoy playing Ki-o-rahi with my friends and my cousins. What I learnt was that sometimes you have to be patient and you have to take turns. I hope you liked my blog post. Bye.

Awsome swim safe lesson

Last Week on Thursday the 17th of October we had a dry land swim safe lesson from Tracy. Tracy came in and taught us the importance of being on a boat and the importance of swimming in the ocean. There are 5 steps to be staying safe on a boat and in the ocean. Tracy bought 5 different kinds of flares. Some of Te Ngahere learnt the different kinds of flares. Tracy taught Te Ngahere that after a while flares can get really hot. Another thing that Tracy taught us was EPIRBS. EPIRB stands for Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. Epirbs can locate your destination in a emergency situation and someone will come and help you. If you want to know the 5 ways you can stay safe on a boat keep reading.
The first step is the most important step and is to put your safety first.
The second step to staying safe on a boat is to check the weather.
The third step is to tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back. You should tell the cost guards, their channel is on channel 16 and in russell it is on channel 14.
The fourth step is to wear a life jacket at all possible times because if you are not wearing a life jacket you will have to decide which life jacket fits you and where you put them.
The fifth and final step is to take a waterproof phone so you can get hold of someone if something bad happens.
We also learnt that if you are not confident to go swimming don’t swim. Another thing we learnt was if you think there is a rip in the water throw a stick in and if it comes back to you there isn’t a rip but if it doesn't there is a rip. Hope you learnt something.Bye.

My first Blog Post (STEAM CHALLENGE)

Hello everyone welcome back to my blog. Did you have a great holiday? Well in Te Ngahere on the first day back at School we did a steam challenge. We made a newspaper tower but we only used 2 sheets of newspaper and 30 cm of tape. If you don’t know what steam means it is an acronym and stands for s-science, t-technology, e-engineering, a-art and m-maths. We were getting judged by who had the tallest newspaper tower. What I learnt was to create a free standing object with limited equipment. What I found difficult was rolling the newspaper because it would never be tight enough. When we were building our tower I kept on looking back at the timer because we only had 20 minutes to make our tower. We used 10-15 minutes of the 20 minutes deciding how we were going to make our tower. What we could have done better was all contributed in making our tower because one of my group members didn’t contribute as much. When we were judged our tower was 99cm high. Our tower was the fourth highest newspaper tower in my class. I was so surprised by how high it was because we didn’t have a base. I hope you like my first blog post this month. Bye.
